Commissioner of Prisons departs for Sri Lanka and Malaysia on official visits

Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Husham has today departed for Sri Lanka and Malaysia on official visits.

During his visit to Sri Lanka, the Commissioner is scheduled to meet with High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Her Excellency Zahiya Zareer.

The Commissioner is visiting Malaysia at the invitation of the Director General of Malaysian Prisons Datuk Wira Hj Zulkifli bin Omar.

He is also scheduled to attend the closing ceremony of the “Certificate in Human Development Plan Towards Inmates” training programme conducted under Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP). Four officers from Maldives Correctional Service are currently participating in the programme.

In addition, the Commissioner will be meeting with the Dean of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) to discuss the possibility of Institute of Correctional Studies (ICOST) conducting diploma-level courses in Maldives in collaboration with UUM.

The Commissioner is joined by Head of Female Inmates Department at Maafushi Prison, Chief Prisons Officer Aishath Riuza, Platoon Commander of Emergency Support Group (ESG) Senior Prisons Officer Izzath Saleem and Head of Correctional Training Unit of ICOST, First Class Prisons Officer Abdul Majeed on his visits.

The Commissioner and accompanying officers are expected to arrive back in Maldives on the 3rd of October 2015.
