Inmates participate in SSC exams from a prison for the first time

Maldives Correctional Service has stated 16 inmates serving time at Maafushi Prison has participated in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams this year. This is the first time inmates have participated in the SSC exam from a prison.

The candidates include 11 male prisoners and five female prisoners who sat for the Islam exam. Classes for these candidates were conducted by Maldives Correctional Service in association with Institute of Holy Quran and Sunnah. In addition to preparing candidates for SSC exams, the Institute also conducts several Qari courses and religious classes.

Though inmates had only sat for Islam exams this year, Maldives Correctional Service is working to facilitate classes for subjects such as Dhivehi, English and Maths to prepare inmates for next year’s exams.

Maldives Correctional Service notes the support from Institute of Holy Quran and Sunnah in spreading Islamic knowledge among inmates would like to thank the owner of the Institute Mr Abdulla Saeed Khalid for the continued assistance.
