Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Family Protection Authority to conduct specialised programmes for inmates serving sentences for domestic violence.
It is part of MCS’s efforts to rehabilitate inmates and release them back to the community as reformed individuals.
Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu signed the MOU on behalf of MCS, while CEO Ms. Aminath Shiranee Naeem signed on behalf of Family Protection Authority.
The duration of the MOU is one year.
Under the MOU, consultants of Family Protection Authority will conduct the specifically-formulated programme “Perpetrator Rehabilitation Programme” for inmates currently serving prison sentences for domestic violence. The purpose of the “Perpetrator Rehabilitation Programme” is to reform those guilty of domestic violence.
Hence, “Perpetrator Rehabilitation Programme” will be conducted during Phase 2 of Rehabilitation Framework.
Similarly, Phase 2 Rehabilitation Framework also consists of “Sex Offender Programme”, a specialised programme being conducted for inmates serving prison sentences for sex crimes.
