Frontline Prison Officers start using body-worn cameras

Prison officers of Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) working in the frontline has started using body-worn cameras in the line of duty.

In that regards, ESG officers will also be using the body-worn cameras during operations.

The use of body-worn cameras would help prison officers to be more responsible and accountable toward their actions. The availability of audio and video recordings of any incident that may occur at the prisons would also greatly assist the internal and external parties in case investigations are required. This also plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of prison officers and those incarcerated.

The body-worn cameras are being used as a free-trial and is being supplied by Zeta Technology under an agreement on 17th February 2022. Zeta Technology is the local distributor of the American brand, Axon. MCS is set to commence the permanent use of these cameras in future.
