Maldives Correctional Service has today started the first batch of Diploma in Qirat Course for inmates at Maafushi Prison.
The chief guest for the inaugural ceremony was Head of Prison Service Command, Chief Prisons Officer Ahmed Riza.
While speaking at the ceremony, CPO Riza addressed the participants and encouraged them to use the opportunity to well and work with the determination to complete the course by attending all classes.
The Executive Director of Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) Senior Prison Officer Ahmed Shahid appreciatively noted the cooperation and assistance provided by Maafushi Prison and Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) in association with Quran and Sunnah and sincerely thanked them during his speech.
A total of 13 inmates are participating in the first batch of the two-year Course
The course is targeted for those who have completed the Qirat Course level three and are able to recite the Holy Quran fluently. By the end of the course, participants will be able to recite the 30th chapter of the Holy Quran by heart as well as pronounce the Arabic alphabet in makhraj, know the details and characteristics of the letters. In addition, they will also learn rules of Tajweed and moral and good behaviour.
Maldives Correctional Service continues conduct several courses to rehabilitate inmates for successful reintegration into society.
