Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has last night commenced Rehabilitation Framework for female inmates of Maafushi Prison. The inauguration ceremony was held at Maafushi Prison.
The inauguration ceremony was joined by Director of Maafushi Prison ASP Abdullah Ameen, Executive Director of Institute for Correctional Studied (ICOST) SPO Ahmed Shahid and commissioned officers of MCS.
MCS introduced the four-phased “Rehabilitation Framework” in order to find out the state of inmates serving sentences under the custody of MCS, to induct them to Prisons and Parole Act of Maldives and regulations drafted under the Act, to encourage them to stay healthy as well as find out how much inmates know of religious aspects that promote good behaviour and teach them what is lacking to build a good religious foundation.
Last night’s ceremony also included awarding of plaques to counselling students of Maldives National University as a token of appreciation for conducting Rehabilitation Framework’s Phase two classes for male inmates of Maafushi Prison. These students had been assisting with the classes to gain practical experience. Maafushi Prison stated that these their contribution was a tremendous help to the progress of the classes.
