Maafushi Prison has today started using the newly-expanded hall where family members meet their incarcerated relatives.
The newly-expanded hall was inaugurated by the Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan at a special ceremony held this morning. The Commissioner also inaugurated a new apartment where married inmates can have conjugal visits with their respective spouses.
The revamped meeting hall will offer a more conducive environment for inmates and their families to spend some time together as it is more comfortable and peaceful than the previous hall.
The ceremony was also joined by Director of Maafushi Prison, Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Salman Rasheed, senior management of Maafushi Prison and Commissioned Officers.
