Fifth batch of Certificate 1 in Custodial Supervision Course begins at Maafushi Prison

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has today begun the fifth batch of Certificate 1 in Custodial Supervision Course at Maafushi Prison. The purpose of the course is to develop and improve officers working at prisons of (MCS).

The four-week Course is targeted for prison officers to ranks below the Corporal rank and is conducted by Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST). A total of 49 officers are participating in the fifth batch and will be taught by facilitators from ICOST.

The Course modules include the ideal way of operating minimum and medium security units, how to maintain security system, the benefits entitled to the inmates and the procedures of providing these benefits as well as the rights of the inmates as mandated by the law. In addition, the authority given to the officers and how to use the authority is also clarified during the Course.

ICOST has held a variety of courses targeting prison officers and is planning to conduct courses of higher levels in the near future.
