The first camp of Ummeedhu programme, organised by by Maldives Police Service, Maldives National Defence Force, Maldives Correctional Service and Juvenile Justice Department / Ministry of Home Affairs to encourage children away from a life of crime has concluded.
19 teenagers had participated in the camp, which was held at the island of Vaanee of Dhaalu Atoll from June 19 2016 to August 19 2016.
The team that was active in providing the participants with training sessions also included 10 officers from Maldives Correctional Service.
The participants of the Ummeedhu Camp were awarded certificates by Minister of Home Affairs, Honourable Azleen Ahmed at a ceremony held at Iskandhar Koshi last night.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister said that he had the opportunity to meet the participants of the camp and after the meeting, he found out that there were no differences between the participants of the camp and the well-behaved children of the society, and he was happy to note that the participants of the camp will be children who love and obey the laws and regulations and their parents.
In addition, the Minister urged family members to give love, care and support to the participants and encourage them to reach the goals set for their future. He noted that there are children who need these kinds of programmes and requested to conduct these essential programmes in a continuous manner.
