A team from Maldives Correctional Service leave for a study tour in Malaysia Prison Academy

A team from Maldives Correctional Service has left for a study tour in Malaysia Prison Academy.

The tour being held from 15th to 24th August 2015 provides the officers with practical experience of rehabilitative programmes conducted in Malaysia and other developed countries of the world. It would also provide exposure to techniques of further strengthening the rehabilitative programmes conducted by MCS.

The participants of the study tour include:

  1. Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zilaal
  2. Director of Asseyri Prison, Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Mohamed Hussain
  3. Head of Programmes and Maintenance (Asseyri Prison) Staff Sergeant Mohamed Rameez
  4. Maafushi Prison’s Deputy Director Offender Service and Maintenance, Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Abdulla Ameen
  5. Head of Offender Service (Maafushi Prison) Senior Prisons Officer Ali Mahir
  6. Civil Officer Mauwa Mohamed Shafiu.

The team will also visit Malaysian prisons, both male and female; to see first-hand how the rehabilitative programmes are implemented.

Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zilaal said after seeing how the programmes are implemented, rehabilitative programmes of Maldives Correctional Service will also be altered accordingly.

Malaysia Prison Academy continuously provides support and various trainings to develop officers of Maldives Correctional Service.

Malaysia Prison Academy is also funding the study tour except for the ticket fares of the team.
