Asseyri Prison of Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has commenced a Tuberculosis (TB) Screening programme today for inmates. The programme is being conducted in collaboration with Health Protection Agency (HPA) and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
A team from IGMH and HPA had travelled to Asseyri Prison on 19th September 2021 in order to prepare the Asseyri Prison staff for the programme. Hence, four nurses working at Asseyri Prison and two nurses from K. Himmafushi Health Centre were trained on TB screening and sample collection.
The Programme is aimed for all inmates at Asseyri Prison and is scheduled to be carried out in three segments; and today’s segment included 71 inmates.
TB screening is carried out randomly at prisons to ensure good health of inmates and the safety of prisons.
