Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has begun the “Certificate 1 in House Wiring and Electrician” course for the sixth batch at Maafushi Prison yesterday. The course is mainly targeted for inmates.
A total of 12 inmates and 15 officers are participating in the current batch of the five-week course.
The purpose of this course is to teach participants how to do basic electrical wiring as well as provide knowledge on the tools required for wiring and what to keep in mind while carrying out wiring and tasks related to electricity.
Inmates who successfully complete the course will receive a MQA level 1 certificate and will possess the basic skills required to do wiring of houses and buildings upon their released from prison. The course is being taught by facilitators from Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) of Maldives Correctional Service.
The course consist of seven main modules such as domestic single phase and three phase wiring, inspection testing, fault finding and repair in domestic installation, preparing estimates and tools required for wiring, install service / repair of replace electrical control system and protective switch gear as well as English and Mathematics.
