Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) in collaboration with UNODC and Ministry of Home Affairs have started “The United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (The Nelson Mandela Rules)” training programme for the first batch for prison officers yesterday.
The training programme will be held from 27th to 28th January 2021. The first batch of the training programme consists of 51 prison officers from all prisons and the Head Office of MCS.
The purposes of the training programme are to induct prison officers on the ” The United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (The Nelson Mandela Rules)” and to develop and streamline their work.
The training programme is conducted by prison officers who completed the “Train the trainers programme on The Nelson Mandela Rules”. The programme include modules on “The Nelson Mandela Rules”, such as an overview of the Rules, prison conditions, prison regime, safety and security, healthcare and safeguard. Prison officers who complete the training will be certified by UNODC.
