Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) of Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has commenced Diploma in Correctional Management Course for the third batch as part of its efforts to develop prison officers.
The orientation of the course was held on 07th January 2021, while classes started on 10th January 2021. A total of 28 prison officers from all prisons have joined the course.
The one-year course is formulated specifically for MCS and relevant to its work. The main purpose of the course is to develop prison officers academically and skillfully proficient; as well as to teach problem-solving skills at management level.
Those who complete the course will attain a certificate that is accredited by Maldives Qualification Authority at level 5. The course will be taught by lecturers with degrees higher than a bachelor’s degree in field’s related to correctional management.
The course includes modules such as induction to changes that occur in the environment while working in the correctional field, things to do to strengthen the institution at a managerial level, what to keep in mind when making decisions at managerial level, to be current and aware on the new findings related to the field and how to induct subordinates to the findings, human resource management modules as well as psychology modules related to correctional field.
