Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has today commenced the sixth batch of Certificate 1 in Computer Application at Maafushi Prison.
The new batch of the five-week course consists of 21 male inmates.
The purpose of the course is to teach basic computer skills and parts of a computer system as part of the efforts to educate and develop skills among those incarcerated, which would be useful to earn a living once released from prison.
The course modules include Windows 7, Basic file management, Introduction to keyboarding, Introduction to networking, Introduction to hardware and software as well as English and Mathematics. Those who complete the course will have the opportunity to enter Certificate 2 in Computer Application.
The course is taught by facilitators from Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST).
