Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) of Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has conducted “Commissioned Officers’ Refresher Programme” for the senior management at Maafushi Prison.
The programme was held from 07th to 09th January 2021. In addition to facilitators from ICOST and professionals from MCS, the programme included facilitators such as Board Member of Maldives Monetary Authority Captain (Retired) Ali Ihusaan and professionals from The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM). A total of 23 commissioned officers participated in the programme. It was also the first batch of the programme.
The main purpose of the programme is to refresh the modules taught during the basic training course, managerial skills and changes that have occurred to correctional work, induction on the rules and regulations of Maldives Correctional Service and the importance of gaining an education and training as well as keeping officers fit and healthy.
The course includes modules such as leadership and communication skills, rules and regulation, change management, the grammar and rules of Dhivehi language, swimming, foot drill and physical training. In addition, the programme also included modules on Convention Against Torture and Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture.
