Maafushi Prison of Maldives Correctional Service has held a ceremony last night to celebrate its 22nd anniversary.
The ceremony was honoured by Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu, while commissioned officers and prison and civil officers of Maafushi Prison also joined the ceremony.
The ceremony included awarding of certificates and shields to officers for various recognitions, such as exemplary attendance, providing assistance and to those who brought a good name to the prison.
Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu thanked the management of Maafushi Prison, prison and civil officers for their service and stated that the spread of Covid-19 at prisons has been prevented due to the grace of Allah Almighty, the solid measures taken by MCS, and the diligence of hardworking employees. He highlighted the importance of building educated and knowledgeable prison and civil officers in various fields and encouraged all to seek higher education. And even though due most of the planned projects have been on hold or cancelled due to Covid-19, some projects have been completed successfully, the Commissioner noted. In addition, the Commissioner said that as MCS is an institution that is closely monitored by national and international agencies, everyone should work towards improving the operations and services of MCS to the level accepted by all.
In addition to awarding certificates and plaques, the ceremony also included a video presentation of the annual happenings and projects of Maafushi Prison was showcased. The ceremony concluded with the swearing of oath and national anthem.
