MCS conducts “Sensitisation Programme on Child Rights & Child Protection” training in collaboration with ARC and UNICEF

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has conducted “Sensitisation Programme on Child Rights & Child Protection” training in collaboration with Advocating for the Rights of Children (ARC) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The training programme, held from October 12th to 15th; was targeted for prison officers with the purpose to induct them on the Laws and regulations relating to children and to create awareness on the standards and ways in treating children at the prisons .

A total of 37 officers and 01 civil officer from all the prisons and Head Office participated in the programme.

The training programme will help to pave way for Maldives Correctional Service to assign trained and specific officers to do work related to children at the prisons as mandated by the Juvenile Justice Act (No. 18/2019).

The facilitators of the programme included professionals from various institutions related to the field such as ARC, UNICEF, Maldives Police Service, Juvenile Justice Unit, Thibaa Psychology and MCS.
