Male’ Prison of Maldives Correctional Service has held a special function last night for participating teams to draw lots for the “Escort Challenge 2016” Football Tournament organised by the Escort Team.
The chief guest of the function was Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan.
The purposes of the Tournament are to create friendliness and sports spirit among officers and staff of Male’ Prison, Hulhumale’ Detention Centre and Head Office; to engage them in sports activities and to provide the opportunity for football players to show their skill. In addition, the tournament will also help to maintain the mental and physical health of staff and officers at Male’ Prison, Hulhumale’ Detention Centre and Head Office.
A total of nine teams are participating in the Tournament, which are divided in two groups. Groups A teams include Team Escort, Team HDC, FC Delta, FC Alpha and FC Morning Shift. Group B teams include Team HQ, Team SMT, FC Charlie and FC Bravo.
The teams in each group will play against each other and the leading two teams of each group will move on to the semi-finals to play against the rival group’s two leading teams. The two winning teams of the semi-finals will move on to the finals to fight for the trophy, while the second runner-up team will be chosen after a match between the two losing teams of semi-finals.
The tournament is set to commence on 02nd October 2016.
