Maldives Correctional Service has yesterday commenced the fourth batch of “Certificate 1 Sewing” course for inmates at Maafushi Prison. The course is part of Maldives Correctional Service’s efforts to rehabilitate inmates by teaching them useful skills and encouraging them to become solid citizens upon their release from prison.
The five-week course is registered at Maldives Qualifications Authority and a total of 21 inmates participated in the course. The course teaches two main modules. Participants who complete this course will know how to cut and sew pillows, pillow cases, bed sheets, pants with elastic waistbands, shorts and cushions.
Maldives Correctional Service continues to work on broadening its programmes to rehabilitate inmates for successful reintegration into society.
