“Facilitator Training Programme 2016” commences at Male’ Prison

Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan has inaugurated the “Facilitator Training Programme 2016” targeted for prison officers of Maldives Correctional Service (MCS). The inauguration ceremony was held yesterday morning at Male’ Prison Annex.

The one-month programme trains officers to conduct programmes for inmates during the phase two of Rehabilitation Framework of MCS. A total of 19 officers are taking part in the programme.

Facilitator Training Programme 2016 includes modules such as Life Skills, Health Awareness, Child Abuse Prevention and Drug Awareness.

The modules are taught by experts from the relevant fields.

In that regard, Life Skills module is being taught by experts from Ministry of Youth and Sports, while Health Awareness module is taught by experts from Health Protection Agency. Child Abuse Prevention module is being taught by experts Child Abuse Prevention Society (CARS), while experts from the National Drug Agency (NDA) will be teaching Drug Awareness.

The participants who complete the Facilitator Training Programme will contribute to MCS’s efforts to rehabilitate inmates and help them turn over a new leaf as responsible and solid citizens away from a life of crime by conducting various training programmes for the inmates.

The inaugural ceremony was also joined by the Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zilaal and Head of Programmes Department, Superintendent of Prisons Mohamed Shaheen Ali.
