Minister of Home Affairs Honourable Umar Naseer has visited Maafushi Prison this morning.
The purpose of the visit was to check the progress of the Drug Offender Remand Centre that is being constructed at the Prison.
In addition to Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan and Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zilaal, representatives of National Drug Agency (NDA) also accompanied Honourable Umar Naseer on the visit.
The Minister had earlier stated that the operation of Drug Offender Remand Centre is supposed to be one of the duties of Maldives Correctional Services. He made the statement while speaking at the ceremony held at Male’ Prison on 27th December 2015 to unveil the Strategic Plan of Maldives Correctional Services.
