Maldives Correctional Service has initiated an awareness programme on Prisons and Parole Act and Anti-Torture Act for prison officers and staff. The first session was first held yesterday at Asseyri Prison.
Organised by Human Resource Section and Prisons Academy, the programme was conducted by Senior Legal Officer Uz Abdulla Zahir and Assistant Legal Officer Ismail Suood from the Legal Services.
The purpose for the programme is to create awareness on Prisons and Parole Act and Anti-Torture Act among all prison officers and staff of Maldives Correctional Service and is scheduled to be carried out at all prisons and Head Office.
The sessions cover topics such as what is anti-torture, information on the authority and rights awarded to prison officers and prisoners by the Prison and Parole Act as well as the disciplinary system set up under these Acts.
