Maldives Correctional Service has yesterday awarded certificates to the graduates of courses conducted for the inmates at prisons.
The certificates were awarded by chief guest, Member of Parliament for Vili-Maafannu constituency Mr Ahmed Nihan Hussain at a ceremony held last evening at Maafushi Prison.
Certificates were awarded to 71 inmates from of six courses, such as Certificate 3 in Electrician, Pest and Disease Control course, Wood Carving Course level 1, Qari Course Certificate level 1, Stocking Flower workshop and Construction of Small Boats.
The participants of the courses said that they have learned many new skills from the courses and requested more such courses to be carried out for them.
The rehabilitation programmes held at prisons have broadened over the years while services provided to the inmates have also improved considerably. The number of courses and workshops organised for inmates have increased over the years while many courses and workshops are currently underway; mostly possible with the generous aid from various parties.
