Maldives Correctional Service has today launched Institute for Correctional Service (ICOST) and its logo at a special ceremony held at Maafushi Prison.
ICOST and its logo were launched by chief guest of the ceremony, Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Husham. Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner said that it was a very happy day for Maldives Correctional Service and preparations are underway to provide law enforcement courses under the banner of ICOST; and once these preparations are complete, ICOST will be able to offer new courses in the area for prison officers.
The Commissioner also thanked the previous Heads of Prison Academy for all their hard work in facilitating training programmes for prison officers and developing them. The Commissioner also noted Superintendent Mohamed Asif’s valuable contribution to developing training programmes for the Prison Academy and specially thanked him for his important work.
“We are working to start diploma-level courses by ICOST in 2016,” said the Commissioner.
Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Husham further added that work is being done to change the Entry-level training programme to a certificate-level programme and ICSOT will soon offer more courses and trainings on law enforcement. In addition, the Commissioner said that he will soon be bringing structural changes to achieve the goal.
