Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) held the passing out ceremony for the second batch of “Certificate 1 in Basic Correctional Officers Training” Programme at Maafushi Prison last night.

The Ceremony was honoured by Chief Guest, Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zareer; while Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Sobah, Directors of Prisons, Commissioned Officers and invited guests also attended the Ceremony.


A total of 19 participants successfully completed the course.

This fundamental training programme is specifically designed for newly-recruited officers to equip them with the basic skills required to perform their duties.


The ceremony included the presentation of certificates to all graduates, as well as medals and plaques to those who achieved higher distinction and top honours. Prison Private Ibrahim Aiham Abdulla was awarded the “Best All Round” trainee, while Prison Private Nisham Abdul Baree earned the title of “Fittest Male Officer.” Furthermore, Prison Private Shaam Mohamed was recognized as the “Most Outstanding Officer” from Charlie Platoon, and Prison Private Hassan Fareeh Mohamed received the same honour for Ivory Platoon. Charlie Platoon was also distinguished as the “Best Platoon” of the Programme.


The Oath of service for all graduates was administered by the Chief Magistrate of the Kaafu Judicial District, Uz. Moosa Naseem.

Congratulating the newly-sworn-in officers during the ceremony, the Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zaree, highlighted that the Maldives Correctional Service plays a pivotal role in the country’s law enforcement framework. The Commissioner urged the graduates to effectively apply the knowledge they have acquired and to consistently align their actions with the oath they have undertaken. He further advised them to uphold the integrity of their profession, remain steadfast in their commitment to the Service, and seek guidance from the experienced senior officers. Additionally, the Commissioner advised the officers to foster a deep-seated love for national service and to remain steadfast in their duties.
