A Swiss national remanded at Maafushi Prison pending trial, Peter Thomas Das (59 years), has passed away today.
Peter was taken to Maafushi Prison Medical Centre immediately after he fainted while in his cell. He was given CPR and then taken to Maafushi Medical Centre. The doctor declared his death around 16:01 pm today when he could not be revived.
Peter was remanded pending trail in for attempting to smuggle narcotics/drugs into Maldives.
MCS informed the news of Peter Thomas Das’s death to his family shortly after, as well as the Inspector of Correctional Service, Maldives Police Service, Human Rights Commission of the Maldives and National Integrity Commission.
