Maldives Correctional Service has today held discussions with Department of Higher Education on the possibility ofchanging Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) into a college.
Some of the areas discussed during the meeting were the possibility changing ICOST into a college and establishing campuses at the prisons making it easier for prison officers to attend courses on site and what needed to be done to achieve it. The representatives from Department of Higher Education suggested that though ICOST had the licence to conducts courses in a mobile manner; it would be better to establish campuses at the prisons. Hence, an agreement to register campuses was reached at the meeting.
The representatives from Maldives Correctional Service included Executive Director of ICOST Chief Prisons Officer Ahmed Riza, Senior Prisons Officer Ahmed Farish Ali and First Class Prison Officer Mohamed Nishwan. Department of Higher Education was represented by the Director of planning and a staff.
ICOST is currently conducting sewing course level 1 and Quran course level 1,2 &3 while an agricultural course is scheduled to start next week.
