Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has yesterday commenced the third batch of Certificate 1 in Computer Application at Maafushi Prison. The course is part of MCS’ efforts to reform and provide educational opportunities for inmates.
The five-week course is taught by facilitators from Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST). The course is targeted for those who wish to get ahead in the field of computers and will aim to teach basic computing as well as prepare them for Certificate 2 in Computer Application.
The course is accredited by Maldives Qualification Authority.
MCS strives to reform inmates so that they become more aware and skilled and encouraged to steer clear of crime after they are back in the society; as opposed to staying in their cells wasting time with depressing thoughts. These programmes also help to improve the thinking and behaviour of inmates and instill an interest to pursue education.
