Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has participated in the “International Coastal Cleanup Day” events.
The event included the cleanup of coastal area and beach area of K. Himmafushi and K. Maafushi. K. Maafushi cleanup was conducted in collaboration with Maafushi Council. During the cleanup event at Himmafushi, the participants had also cleaned up outside perimeter of Asseyri Prison.
A large number of prison and civil officers had partaken in the activity, while several inmates from Asseyri Prison had also taken part in the event.
Maldives Correctional Service views that it is important to include inmates in such events. MCS aims to change the thinking of inmates for the better by organising events to include them in community-based activities.
