Maafushi Prison has yesterday opened four additional classrooms to provide a good nurturing and education and to inmates.
The classrooms were inaugurated by Minister of Home Affairs Honourable Azleen Ahmed during his official visit to Maafushi Prison.
These new classrooms are air-conditioned and are equipped with modern technology such as a smartboard and multi-media projector. The equipment was donated to Maldives Correctional Service by a few generous individuals.
The inauguration ceremony was joined by Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zilaal, Director of Maafushi Prison Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Salman Rasheed, Executive Director of Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST), senior officers of prisons and commissioned officers.
Maldives Correctional Service continues with its efforts to reform and educate inmates and by the end of their sentence to present them to the society as socially-accepted solid citizens. In that regard, the recently-opened classrooms will help MCS in conducting more courses for inmates by addressing the issue of lack of sufficient space to accommodate more inmates at courses.
