Testing for TB underway at prisons

Maldives Correctional Service has initiated testing for Tuberculosis (TB) of inmates at the prisons. The testing is being conducted under the direct supervision of Health Protection Agency (HPA).

Five inmates were tested positive for TB and proper medical care is being provided to these inmates. These inmates were tested during the early stages and preventive measures have been carried out at the prisons to avoid further spread of the disease. In that regard, the five inmates are being treated for TB in isolation from the general population of inmates.
