Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has commenced today the second batch of Certificate 1 in Computer Application at Maafushi Prison. The course is part of MCS’ efforts to provide educational opportunities for inmates and develop them.
The five-week course is taught by facilitators from Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) and is accredited by Maldives Qualification Authority. A total of 20 inmates are participating in the second batch of the Course.
MCS strives to reform inmates so that they become more aware and skilled and encouraged to steer clear of crime after they are back in the society; as opposed to staying in their cells wasting time with depressing thoughts. These programmes also help to improve the thinking and behaviour of inmates and instil an interest to pursue education.
