MCS to broaden its rehabilitation programmes for inmates at Asseyri Prison

Maldives Correctional Service has stated that rehabilitation programmes for inmates at Asseyri Prison is to be broadened.

In that regard, the time inmates spent at work will be increased while officers will ensure that the time they spent at work is most productive despite the difficulty in praying, having meals and using the bathroom while the inmates are at work. Asseyri Prison is currently in the process of resolving these issues by building the required facilities.

There are currently several rehabilitative programmes conducted for inmates such as agricultural farming, handicraft work and goat and chicken farming. Inmates are also allowed to work at factories in Himmafushi as part of the re-integration programmes.

Maldives Correctional Service continues to conduct various programmes to rehabilitate inmates for successful reintegration into society and assist them in living a happy life.
