Prison sentences are an opportunity for inmates to gain knowledge and learn skills – Dato’ Sri Hj. Zulkifli

Malaysia’s Commissioner General of Prisons Dato’ Sri Hj. Zulkifli bin Omar has stated that prison sentences are an opportunity for inmates to gain knowledge and learn skills.

The Commissioner General had made the statement while speaking as the special guest at the ceremony held yesterday at Maafushi Prison to award certificates to inmates who successfully completed four courses.

“Since 2008, the Malaysia Prison Department has maintained a close relationship with Maldives Correctional Service and has provided numerous training opportunities for prison officers under the “Malaysia Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP),” said Commissioner General.

Addressing inmates, the Commissioner General encouraged inmates to be patient in serving their sentences and that it was an opportunity to become better. He urged inmates to adhere to regulations and to cooperate with prison officers; as well as stating that prison officers are a model example to inmates to becoming better people and to living a wonderful life after they are released.
