MCS holds closing ceremony for two rehabilitation-related training programmes

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) holds closing ceremony of two training programmes today to strengthen the rehabilitation efforts of inmates.

The closing ceremony was held at Maldives Customs Hall this morning, with Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Hon. Ali Ihusan as the Chief Guest. The ceremony was also attended by Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zareer, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Uz Ibrahim Mohamed Didi, commissioned officers, junior officers and Deputy Commissioners of Maldives Customs Service Abdullah Waheed and Ibrahim Mafaaz.

The closing ceremony included the handover of certificates to participants of “Faith-based Rehabilitation Training Programme” and “Working with Women Prisoners: A TOT” programme.

Both programmes were held from 06th – 08th October 2025.

The “Faith-based Rehabilitation Training Programme” was held in collaboration with Malaysia Prison Department, with the aim of exploring ways to incorporate faith-based rehabilitation into the rehabilitative efforts MCS.

A total of 37 officers and civil staff participated in the programme, while the lecturers from Malaysia Prison Department were Senior Assistant Commissioner Mr Ahmed Zulkarnain Bin Abdul Khalid, Superintendent Mr Zulhimnan Bin Roslan and Islamic Religious Officer Mr Mohd Shiham Bin Ramli.

The “Working with Women Prisoners: A TOT” programme was held in collaboration with the British High Commission in the Maldives under the Maldives Security and Justice Programme. The programmes focused on international best practices in managing women in prisons, gender sensitive approaches and improved awareness of trauma and vulnerability.

The participants of the programme include seven female officers working in the Female Unit of Maafushi Prison. The lecturer of this programme was Prison Expert Mr Tony Hassall.
