The Escort Challenge Football Tournament, organised by the Escort Team of Maldives Correctional Service is set to begin tomorrow night.
The purposes of the Tournament as per Escort Team’s Commander Staff Sergeant Hussain Nadheem are to create friendliness and sports spirit among officers and staff of Male’ Prison, Hulhumale’ Detention Centre and Head Office; to engage them in sports activities and to provide the opportunity for football players to show their skill. In addition, the tournament will also help to maintain the mental and physical health of staff and officers at Male’ Prison, Hulhumale’ Detention Centre and Head Office.
A total of eight teams are participating in the Tournament and are divided in two groups, Groups A and B. The teams include Team Escort, FC Delta, Team HQ, Team Hulhumale’ Detention Centre, FC Bravo, Team Medic and SO Unit, Team Alpha and FC Charlie.
Escort Team’s Commander Staff Sergeant Hussain said that each team in each group will play against each other and the leading two teams will move on to the semi-finals to play against the other group’s two leading teams. The two winning teams of the semi-finals will move on to the finals to fight for the championship trophy. The second runner-up team will be chosen after a match of the two losing teams at the semi-finals.
The first match of the tournament is scheduled for kick-off at 8:15 pm at Male’ Prison’s Football Field where Escort Team will face FC Delta. The match will be inaugurated by the Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Husham.
This is the second Escort Challenge and Escort Team’s Commander Staff Sergeant Hussain Nadheem has informed that this year’s tournaments has received more support from officers than last year and are working hard to make it a huge success.
