MCS commences TB screening programme for inmates and remanded persons at Hulhumale’ Prison

Hulhumale’ Prison of Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has commenced a Tuberculosis (TB) Screening programme today for inmates and remanded persons.

The Programme is aimed for all inmates and remanded persons at Hulhumale’ Prison and is scheduled to be carried out in segments over a period of seven days. Today’s segment an awareness session on TB and the upcoming segments include TB screening, sample collection and X-rays. Sample collection segment is set to collect 16 samples per day.

The programme is being conducted in collaboration with Health Protection Agency (HPA), Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Hulhumale’ Hospital.

TB screening is carried out randomly at prisons to ensure good health of inmates and the safety of prisons. The Hulhumale’ Prison TB Screening is being held in conjunction with World TB Day (24th March 2022).
