MCS signs MOU with IGMH to provide specialist doctor consultations to inmates and remanded persons

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) today to provide consultations to inmates and remanded persons through specialist doctors.

Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu signed the MOU on behalf of MCS while Chief Executive Officer Mr. Ibrahim Saleem signed for IGMH. The duration of MOU is one (1) year.

There are several difficulties and large expenses in escorting inmates and remanded persons from one point to another. Hence, the purpose of signing the MOU is to provide medical care for inmates and remanded persons for uncommon ailments and problems through relevant specialist doctors from the convenience of prisons.

Under the MOU, the IGMH will be sending super specialist doctors, specialist doctors, nurses and other technical staff to prisons for a short period. The doctors are to consult a minimum of 20 patients per visit.

The arrangement of such services will prove to be a huge convenience to providing medical care to the incarcerated. MCS aims to provide essential medical care to the incarcerated while ensuring the safety of inmates and remanded persons, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
