Commissioner of Prisons meets newly-appointed members of the Parole Board

Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu has today met the members of the Parole Board at Head Office of MCS.

The purpose of the meeting was to observe the work of Parole Board and to get acquainted with the three new members appointed to the Parole Board by the President of Maldives as well as welcome the new Chairperson and Vice Chairperson appointed by the Board. The meeting also included discussions on the obstacles to achieving the Board’s work and further strengthening the parole system.

The Parole Board was formed by the President of Maldives under the clause 127 (a) of “Prison and Parole Act” No. 2013/14. The Parole Board has members representing different areas as mandated by the Prisons and Parole Act. The members include a senior officer from Maldives Police Service, a medical doctor, a lawyer from the Attorney General’s Office, a senior official from Ministry of Education, a senior official from Ministry of Health, a psychiatrist, a member from a civic organisation, a scholar from Ministry of Islamic Affairs and a commissioned officer from Maldives Correctional Service. Currently the Board is missing a psychiatrist.

The three new members appointed to the Parole Board are Mr Mohamed Meezaan (representative of Ministry of Health), Mr Yauqoob Adam Manik (representative of Ministry of Education) and Dr Fathimath Mufliha (a medical doctor). The newly-elected Chairperson is Uza Maziya Abdul Sattar (representative of Attorney General’s Office), while Mr Mohamed Ibrahim (Scout Association member) was elected as the Vice Chairperson.
