UNODC conducts virtual training programme for MCS officers

A virtual training programme on “Viruses in places of detention” has been held today for Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) officers.

The training programme was organised by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with funding from European Union under the Counter-terrorism Support project for Maldives.

More than 40 officers and staff from all prisons, ESG, medical, ICOST and Head Office participated in the training. The training covered discussion areas such as the status of prisons due to Covid-19, the steps taken against the virus as well as the challenges facing the prisons and solutions to the challenges.

The training was conducted by Senior Prison Expert Consultant Fredrik Holmgren, while UNODC’s Regional Representative Sergey Kapinos, UN Resident Coordinator Catherine Haswell, Director General of Ministry of Home Affairs Thalhath Raufudheen and Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu also spoke at the training.
