Ismail Hussain from HA. Filladhoo/Feroazge, has passed away late last night while serving a 13-year six-month sentence at Hulhumale’ Prison.
The 92-year-old’s health had deteriorated last night and was taken to the Hulhumale’ Hospital via ambulance for further treatment after being treat by the Prison’s medical centre. Following checkup, the attending medical staff from the hospital had pronounced him dead at 2:10 am.
Ismail Hussain was an elderly inmate who had been bedridden for a long time due to complications arising from old age. He was also admitted to hospital and given treatment last week.
Inspector of Correctional Service, Human Rights Commission of the Maldives and Maldives Police Service were subsequently informed of the death of Ismail Hussain. Following standard procedure, sample was also collected for Covid-19 testing.
