FC Thundu has claimed the Asseyri Prison Cup championship after defeating NX at a penalty shootout. The final match was played yesterday at Asseyri Prison football field.
The Asseyri Prison Cup was organised by Asseyri Prison and carried out in association with Hulhumale’ Detention Centre.
The spirited final match had no goals by the end of the game, leading to a penalty shootout. FC Thundu won the match with a score of 4-3.
The Man-of-the-match of the final match was FC Thundu’s Private Ibrahim Nishaah while the best player of Asseyri Cup was FC Thundu’s Private Ibrahim Haleem. The best scorer was NX’s Prison Lance Corporal Raaid Abu Bakur.
Runner-up team of the tournament was NX, while FC Unity was chosen as the Fair play team.
Chief Guest Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Husham awarded the trophy and gold medal to the winning team while the trophy and silver medals for the runner-up team was given by Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Ibrahim Mohamed Didi. Certificate for fair-play team was awarded by Assistant Director Ahmed Sobah while shield and certificate for the Best Player was awarded by Assistant Director Shahuma Mohamed Waheed.
Asseyri Prison’s Deputy Director of Prison Sub-Inspector Mohamed Hussain awarded certificates to sponsors, referees and officials of the tournament.
The tournament was an initiative of Asseyri Prison to foster friendship and sports spirit among officers of Asseyri Prison and Hulhumale’ Detention Centre.
