Minister of Home Affairs Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has stated that today an official structure has been introduced for penitentiary system.
Minister Dr Jameel made the statement while speaking as the Chief Guest at the ceremony held at Iskandhar Koshi to celebrate 41st anniversary of Department of Penitentiary and Rehabilitation Services (DPRS).
The ceremony was also joined by Minister of State for Home Affairs Deputy Commissioner of Police (retired) Mohamed Fayaz and DPRS Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan and Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Asif as well as a large number of officers and civil staff of DPRS.
Minister Dr Jameel additionally said that the change leaves out the outdated practices of the sentence-enforcing institution and is a very positive change which would result in positive outcomes. He also said that an official structure has been introduced for penitentiary system and the advancement of officers should not depend on any political individual or the individual holding the position of Home Minister.
