Maldives Correctional Service starts two Qari-Level courses for inmates at Maafushi Prison

Maldives Correctional Service in association with Quran and Sunnah has started two Qari-level courses for inmates at MaafushiPrison.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Executive Director for Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) Chief Prisons Officer Ahmed Riza urged all participants to work hard pass the course with flying colours and to place great importance on attending classes regularly. He said that ICOST had started a sewing course and a pastry course targeted for female inmates earlier this month and plans are underway to start an agricultural course.

A total of 51 inmates have participated in both courses; 26 males and 25 females. The length of Qari Level 2 course is four months while Qari Level 3 course will go on for seven months.

The inaugural ceremony was also attended by the Head of Female Inmates Management Department Chief Prison Officer Aishath Riuza and lecturers from ICOST.
