Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has today held a certificate awarding ceremony at Maafushi Prison for inmates who completed Phases 1 and 2 of Rehabilitation Framework.
The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan.
The ceremony was also joined by Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zilaal, Maafushi Prisons Director ASP Salman Rasheed, Executive Director of Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) SPO Ahmed Shahid, commissioned officers and several officers from Maafushi Prison.
In addition to handing over certificates to graduates of Phase 1 and 2, certificates were also given to the facilitators of both phases.
Phase 1 of Rehabilitation Framework was carried out from 17th June 2016 till 17th September 2016 while Phase 2 was carried out from 10th April 2017 till 10th July 2017. Both phases were completed by a total of 24 inmates, who will soon participate in Phase 3.
MCS introduced “Rehabilitation Framework” in 2016 to in order to reform inmates, educate and teach them useful skills which can motivate them to becoming good citizens and earn a living after they are released from prison. There are four main phases of the Framework; Discipline, Psychology Programmes, Educational and Vocational and Prison Community Service.
