Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan has stated that prison officers, 24 hours seven days a week no matter where they are or what they are doing; they cannot evade the bond of being an officer.
CP Shihan made the statement yesterday during a meeting with the Senior Management Team (SMT) of Maafushi Prison.
The meeting was also joined by Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zilaal and Superintendent of Prisons Ibrahim Mohamed Didi.
CP Shihan also said that prison officers should not get involved in political activities and should always remain “neutral”. He said that advancement can be gained by following laws and regulations and maintain the standing of a prison officer and if the progress of MCS is desired, everyone should stand proud and work within the laws and regulation.
The Commissioner additionally said that prison officers should remain very “clean” and should not do anything that opposes the law to hide anyone. He also advised to stop prison officers from going against the law and to work to reform them by teaching them the right way. CP Shihan said that no matter who the prison officer is, regardless of the rank held or how long he or she had served, that person should be stopped immediately from committing illegal acts.
