Security and Operational Management Course starts at Maafushi ‎Prison

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has yesterday started Certificate iv in Security and Operational Management at Maafushi Prison to develop officers working at Emergency Support Group (ESG).  

The 12-month course is conducted by Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST). A total of 30 ESG officers are participating in the course and will be taught by facilitators from ICOST.

The purpose of the course is to make officers capable of monitoring the perimeter fence of high security prisons and managing the gatehouse operations room as well as escorting high security prisoners. The course also aims to produce officers who are patient, courageous and bold enough to respond to emergency situations to maintain peace and security at the request of a prison in-charge by use of force if necessary to contain the situation in accordance with the laws of Republic of Maldives and the Prison and Parole Act (14/2013).

The course will teach officers to make security decisions according to the law and legislation, good communication skills, manage and control inmates, skills on managing and handling the critical situations, self-defense skills and adapt to change in the environments.
