Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan has visited the eroding site of Asseyri Prison.
Waves had crashed past the wave breakers at the reclaimed land area of Himmafushi causing water to rise at the accommodation block of officers at Asseyri Prison. This area had never been affected by waves prior to the initiation of the land reclamation project. Now the area is being eroded rapidly.
It is believed that the crashing of waves and erosion of the newly-reclaimed area can only be stopped after increasing the wave breakers.
The Commissioner had also visited the site of the reclaimed area of Himmafushi.
