Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) of Maldives Correctional Service has today begun Certificate 2 in Custodial Supervision Course at Maafushi Prison.
The Course is targeted for prison officers to ranks of Sergeant and Staff Sergeant.
The Course modules include the ideal way of operating minimum and medium security units, how to maintain security system, the benefits entitled to the inmates and the procedures of providing these benefits as well as the rights of the inmates as mandated by the law. In addition, the authority given to the officers and how to use the authority is also clarified during the Course.
The 15-week course is being taught by lecturers from Maldives Correctional Service.
In addition to Certificate 2 in Custodial Supervision Course, Maldives Correctional Service has planned to carry out several courses targeted for prison officers. Maldives Correctional Service informs that diploma-level courses for prison officers are also in the planning.
